My first foray into using the body as the primary input for making generative art, this is a sketch I created during the "Recreating the Past" course. Drawing upon inspiration from Camille Utterback, Maya Man, and "Magic Mirror" projections, I aimed to build a tool that enabled a user to "paint" a canvas with their bodies and record snippets of their movements, creating a "digital dance collage."
How It Works:
The user moves in front of their webcam, and the program maintains a cache of the most recent 10 frames, visualizing a colorful "trail" of their movement. When the user discovers an interesting composition, the click of a button allows them to record those looping frames to the canvas. Each recorded loop is added to the screen, layered on top of the last.
